PFOND is an online system intended to promote the sharing of information about research, treatment and resources for rare genetic disorders. The project's goal is to provide a system that allows volunteers to summarize information about disorders, manage online discussion forums, highlight breaking research news and identify global experts. We are delighted to announce the forthcoming launch of the Journal of Huntington's Disease (JHD). Available in both online and print formats in 2012, this new high-quality journal will focus on Huntington's disease and related disorders.

Dr. Kobor collaborates with Dr. Boyce in the Gene Expression Collaborative for Kids Only (GECKO) Project to study the differences among children's life experiences and risks for physical and mental health problems. Dr. Kobor leads the effort in analysing the connection between DNA and environmental and social experiences.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Hayden is the recipient of the second annual Aubrey J. Tingle Prize. Created in honour of the founding President & CEO of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, this award is given to a British Columbia clinician scientist or scholar practitioner whose work in health research is internationally recognized and has significant impact on advancing clinical or health services and policy research. Local researchers are finally on the road to developing targeted treatments for serious, life-long disabilities such as autism and schizophrenia, thanks to new genomics research focusing on abnormal brain development. With funding from Genome British Columbia, Dr. Daniel Goldowitz is opening the mysterious world of the developing brain by mapping the genes in the cerebellum and studying which genes influence abnormal development.

The Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT) is a synergistic group of scientists and researchers who share a strong sense of commitment to solve the many genetic questions surrounding human illness and well being. Affiliated with the University of British Columbia and the Child & Family Research Institute, CMMT conducts discovery research and translates that research into effective clinical and therapeutic strategies to promote health.
